Author Topic: Should runescape get rid of membership and make it free to play?  (Read 2136 times)

If you're talking about old school runescape then 2 million is about on par to RS3's 18 million.

Old School runescape's inflation isn't nearly as bad as RS3 So 2 million in OSR is about 18 million to RS3.

I was talking about how easy it is to grind for 2 mil (to buy a bond) in F2P in OSRS then just use your membership access to grind another bond every other week

you can easily make like 20 mil in a week as a member in OSRS so you don't have to pay for member for the rest of the year.

dunno about RS3 it seems hella expensive

games with a monthly sub dont get to have microtransactions and runescape is the first game ive heard of to have this and they should be ashamed just like you should be for not posting sources
there's been a few games actually

roblox being one of them
then there's FFXIV, ESO (when it was sub based), and I think even Wizard 101.

i was expecting someone to mention ffxiv, ffxiv has purely cosmetics
roblox has optional subscription, and i already knew eso was trash lol

WoW has paid services like race change, faction change, and server transfer, and paid cosmetics like pets and mounts, since like, forever. It's also had the equivalent of bonds for a few years.

I used to play (like maybe 2006-2012) a f2p mmo called Mabinogi that had the full range of various micro transactions, plus an optional monthly subscription premium service, although (except for the very beginning of the game) it didn't unlock any extra content, just a lot of bonuses.

I wouldn't really consider RS to be free to play. I'd say it's p2p with an extensive trial.
It's not pay to win because free players aren't matched against paying players.

I find it really loving annoying that if your membership runs out you're unable to use all the members-only items you have even though you ALREADY OWN THEM. I'm fine not being allowed to trade/buy/sell/drop them on f2p worlds, but at least loving let me use the stuff I already worked for.

autism
google what you can grind to buy a bond or stop bitching, cheap ass.

i started playing runescape literally yesterday and one thing i dont really like about the lootbox/treasure key system is that you can get lamps that you can't use and can't bank (as a free-to-play) and its obnoxious that they're just taking up my inventory space. i decided to destroy them because i don't plan on getting membership for a fair bit until i find out if i really like the game

What about members matched with other members?

i don't plan on getting membership for a fair bit until i find out if i really like the game

If you sign up for the amazon prime free-trial you can get 1 month of membership for free.

But yeah it's dumb, I was actually pissed off I got a members only lamp that I couldn't bank.

They basically keep your members only stuff held ransom until you pay to unlock it again.

Borderline ransomware.

man RS's community is so split up i guess it's not surprising there's so few people per world now. still sucks to see tho.
i'm actually a little surprised runescape didn't go F2P back when it was becoming popular to do so. maybe if they did it now they would be able to look and see how to do it right
