It sounds like you need a new video card. What's your budget?
I'm used to posting something like that in these sorts of topics :D
But yeah, your father is an ass

Lol'd.

Congrats on getting the laptop back.

since you're 18
you can file theft

Reinstall XP/Vista/7.

yep

Anyways, it's a good thing that you got your laptop back, and kill your dad when you get the chance.

nah

The only bad thing out of this is that a man I'll never speak to again saw the contents of my hard drive and took some files I don't really want anymore

edit: fun fact - my internet history says he used it to shop for underwater cameras and buy some kind of perfume, lol

did he really think parental controls / downgrading user account would be hard to bypass? your father doesn't seem like the brightest of men..

Welp, I reformatted and installed a chunk of the programs I used to have, fortunately I've still got all of my pictures (thanks to someone forgetting to empty the recycle bin, lul), videos, music, documents (most of them), etc.

Playing PC games feels good man

I don't know what he did and didn't find on his hard drive exploration, but I don't have to talk to him anymore so I don't care!

I just wish I could see the look on his face when he finds out I took back control of everything :[

Uh, didn't you get the computer when you were 17? If so, I believe your parents were still your legal guardians (depending on the terms of the divorce, obviously). Anything that 'you own' is not actually yours. So if you bought that laptop while your dad was still your legal guardian, he CAN legally take it and do whatever the forget he wants with it.

Of course, it's possible that the divorce terms stated that he was no longer your legal guardian and that your mom has full guardianship.

Anyways, I'm glad you got it back :)
I'm addicted to my machine, I'd flip out and go crazy if I didn't have my lovey compy :v
