I work at Target. Generally store policy for a 'code green' (guest incident) in this situation would have been to have the security find you before you left the store and then get the story from both parties. So it was handled wrong in that way.
Secondly, though, if you get into a fight of any sort at a store it's usually a good idea to tell a team member instead of just leaving the store...
