I think you misinterpreted my post. I'm an atheist, and I try to act in a way that would help humanity grow as a whole. However, I'd prefer someone only be nice because a book told them they'd be rewarded, COMPARED TO not being nice at all. Was that not apparent?
They do it for the reward of eternal life in heaven, not the reward of happiness itself, and the feeling you get when you make another person feel good.
A generalization. Lots of Christians are nice people. There are starfishs in every group in the world. Similarly, there are nice people in every group in the world. I'd think nice Christians would be doing it for both reasons.
the reward is that you are improving society as a commune, and improving the future.
