MY favourite way is to kill someone in broad daylight and get caught by the guards. Select "Go to Jail.". This way, you'll kill two birds with one stone. You'll get accepted into the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild. Either way, going to jail, but not killing attracts attention to the thieves guild anyway.

Then race threw the town to go steal some one diary 8D (or fail at it and mug the person who got there first). If you are an argonian you can swim across the water and cut of almost a third of the travel time.

Any race can swim. Just Argonians don't need special enchantments to be able to breath underwater.
