Is your land claimed? Was the drying rack on the claim? And besides, if it is, it's probably one of the people in your settlement being a cigarette.

How do I know if something is on a claim?
There is no scent either. Never was a scent.

I'm guessing you don't because you don't know what a claim is.

You can only see a scent if the land is on claimed ground. Otherwise unclaimed stuff is free for the taking/destruction.

You do know you need very high exploration/perception to find rustroots? If you don't know what rustroots are, you should probably go on the wiki for a long while. Prospecting is useless without them.

10 lp per tile that you claim.
The boxes and Tresspassing, Thief, and Vandalism is for permissions.
Don't worry about the colored boxes unless you changed any of your kins' colors.
Adding Tresspassing, Thief, and Vandalism to, say, white will allow white kin to do that, but will not let the other colors do that.
