Author Topic: Was it worth the $20?  (Read 5857 times)

I agree with Loopyla.  I'm a v8'er, and back then, everyone was the intelligent, professional acting builder that everyone liked.  Nowadays, it seems that people are just closing out noobs.

You've noticed it too?
So many people grew up here acting like ID is everything. Look what it's done. Thankfully me and you (I assume) have low ID's and won't be a victim of this.

If Blockland didn't get so popular, it wouldn't be like this :c

Def worth $20. I would've paid $50.

I've been here since the start, I'm stayin' till the end.

It's not that the game's popular, it's the way people used to think of low ID's. If we had never looked down upon low ID's then we never would have had such an ID-discriminate community.

The more popular the game is, the more idiot 9 year olds join.

But they would never notice that having a high ID is even the slightest problem if we never pointed it out. It's like mocking somebody on Xbox Live for having a later joining date, even though they could have like 20k more GS than them.

I guess that's why Badspot made it where you have to turn on viewing IDs.

Even then, people still tell others how to view it. The community is so ID-Discriminate, I actually got admin on a server for no other reason than having a low-ID.

You're complaining about that?

I love it. Anyway, I find ID-discrimination appropriate to a certain extent. It helps find (in most cases) people who would be more helpful to you and (in most cases) not be complete handicaps. I'm not saying all high-IDs are complete handicaps, but the smarts:handicap ratio has changed dramatically since v8 or even v9. I used to act completely on impulse due to ID, then some 9k (This was the highest ID-generation possible at the time) joined my server and built something plain out wonderfully pleasing to the eye. He immediately gained my respect, and I will never forget that. Now, it's getting hard to say that about newer 20k players. They only tend to be notable if they played the demo for.. oh, say a month minimum before buying the game. This is also a smarter choice in my opinion so that someone doesn't blow $20 out the door for a game they will play once (We've all done it.)

Tl;dr: ID-discrimination is gayish but actually knowing the ID can be helpful, and some people don't fit the stereotype.

I had the demo for like 5 months (maybe more) and I never bought it before because something else would come into my mind that was around $20 and then blockland was pushed to the back of my mind for about a week. Finally, I got it.

But yeah, I think it was worth $20. So I may have a 21k Id, but that doesn't stop me from knowing how to make a decent build.

$20 well spent. Learned tot ype faster and better. Learned how not to act. Learned better building techniques. It was totally worth it.

It depends on the person. For me, yes, its a good $20 spent.
