Author Topic: The Portal 2 Thread: MAP EDITOR OUT  (Read 477933 times)

So about those articles where Crytek and DICE say that Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 were held back graphically by consoles, but won't be limited on the PC?

The PS3 and 360's graphics processors are easily outdated.  They still make pretty pictures but game engines are moving forward as well as PC hardware, while consoles are still standing still waiting to make their next big jump.

a $600 computer can rock portal better then an xbox can.
you dont need a super computer to play a mod of a game that came out in like... 2004 or whatever it was.

You don't even need $600. A $300 - $400 dollar computer built with parts off of newegg could easily pull off Portal 2. That's like an extra hundred bucks or so.

So, anyone going to get me a stuffty computer that can barely run anything and then every little piece to upgrade it for the next few years? :cookieMonster: Or can I just put that money toward games on my cheaper console with graphics that don't loving matter to me as long as they aren't terrible, which they aren't. They're good. Maybe you can have better on PC, but they look fine anywhere possible.

But really: Go to Newegg and find me a good pre-built that's cheap as forget. I can't build a computer, I don't trust touching those things and tryign to figure out where they go, potentially breaking stuff. Not everyone can do that.

Aaaand no overclock.

I heard that before, barely knew what it meant, forgot now...

stuffty computer? A $300 computer will work perfectly fine for Portal 2. It could run it on medium or so with a nice frame rate.
Also, if you ever actually get interested in building a computer, there's some pretty nice tutorials on YouTube going step by step showing you how to install parts. Also, some parts are pretty damn durable. They're not as breakable as you think. Make a topic with your budget and explain what you want a computer for and I'm sure people will help you pick out nice compatible parts. It's honestly not as hard as you think, man.

Overclocking is where basically you speed up the parts of you computer for better performance, but it takes a toll by potentially overheating your parts. So you need (in some cases) very nice cooling to cool it down. Overclocking is not needed at all in most cases, unless you really want to get the bang for your buck, I guess.
