Partially true, but at least if you'd get pregnant during marriage you would have a partner who takes responsibility as well (Hopefully) and you would be with much more security as opposed to if your under-aged/unmarried and pregnant. As for the STDs, that still stands, but one could argue you would at least have someone there, and the partner that gave it to you wouldn't just get up and leave you with that unforeseen present. Not to say they would exclusively leave if you are unmarried or that they wouldn't if you are.

So no, it doesn't protect you from either, but it can certainly help with the aftermath.
