Author Topic: RuneScape - I'm not skilled enough to brush some dirt off this herb  (Read 856912 times)

I think Jagex seriously planned this whole voting thing. They were losing members fast, so they did this to get more people to buy membership. just my opinion.

edit: i mean, like, they knew the voting would end somewhere around 500k.
IMO, if the ESMMO is any good it's going to tear runescape to shreds. runescape is nice and stuff, but it seriously lacks any sense of urgency anymore, since dying just spawns you in the nearest town.

wat
they're not aiming for the same kind of player at all
they're not in competition

they are both MMORPGs, they are both aiming for the same general audience. Even though runescape appeals to younger and less technologically endowed players, they are still going for the same general player group. Same goes for WoW, lots of RS players have played or do play WoW, even though the games are vastly different. Saying that ESO isn't in competition with RS is like saying captain crunch isn't in competition with frosted flakes, since they are both completely different kinds of cereal.

I prefer captain crunch. its delicious (but i get your point)

i knew jagex would do some kind of appealing towards higher votings without actually getting there
now watch later we get most of the other 500k stuff :-)

I thought this too

No... seriously... ESO and Runescape aim for different audiences entirely...

For starters, not everyone wants to download a high-end game for advanced massively multiplayer combat.  Runescape is a simple browser based game that's easy to get into and doesn't require much time to just hop on and waste some time.  It isn't hardcore.

It isn't hardcore.
You're joking, right?

I hardcore fish ALL DAY, ERRY DAY

It's an MMO which puts it in competition with other MMOs the same way CoD is in competition with halo even though the games are really different.

COD and Halo attract the same people.

I'm psyched for ESO, because it's a new game being released with some fantastic ideas.  Runescape seems like stuff to me as it has for several years.  Even when it was out, World of Warcraft was the obvious choice to play.  Runescape happened to be free, so that's the only reason I ever logged into it.

There is no competition.  The people that play Runescape are just those who remember the game for what it was, and just like to log in for a while.

Runescape is a valid competitor.

Farming roosterroach drones and spider's is turning out to be profitable. Spider silk + Random Loot = Easy money

this was my first mmorpg i'm pretty sure

i still play it for a few weeks every few months

going back on one of those now i think

this was my first mmorpg as well. i didn't like the direction that the game was going around 2008 and was on and off for years after starting around 2005.

i also find it very silly that i have to pay them money to play an old and buggy version of their game. it's almost like they're admitting, "yeah we're happier with the game when you subtract six years of work from it."

and that's just atrocious.
