Or, you can burn an Ubuntu install disk, boot from it and format the disk from there. Of course, you may want to install an OS before you sell it.

You want to use a full disk eraser if you're selling it. Just Google one because there are millions. It overwrites every part of the hard drive with garbage code (usually all zeros). You don't want to just format when selling your computer as you don't know who will be buying it.

Step 1. Turn off the computer
Step 2. Find a clothe of some sort and wet it
Step 3. Once the clothe is wet, ring it out so it doesn't drip
Step 4. Softly rub the wet clothe onto the surface of your computer
Step 5. Keep rubbing the wet clothe onto the computers surface until the surface is completely cleaned.

Congratulations! You just wiped your computer.

What you should do here is to open a window of notepad. Enter

FORMAT C:

and save the file as disk_destroyer_basic.bat.

This won't do anything fancy. It will just wipe your hard disk. There are a few quirks to be worked out with this method, but like I said, informational purposes only.

Grab a Clorox wipe, and rub it against the computer.
Clorox is not required. Any brand can be used,

Or after doing that, just leave ubuntu installed on the laptop and sell it as a linux laptop.

Reformat you're hard drive. Or have a Virus do it for you and then sell it.
