Author Topic: MW2 for Computer  (Read 1192 times)

So, I was considering saving up a bit and buying MW2 for the computer, but how big an issue is the lack of dedicated servers? I imagine it's a big deal if Infinity Ward figured they could push more traffic to the 360 version of the game by removing that for computer, but when it comes down to it, would my online experience in MW2 be less fun and quality and more frustrating due to the lack of dedicated servers than CoD4?

Meh
Just get it so I can play with you

If anyhting, I think it would be less frustrating, dedicated servers are just annoying to go through for games like CoD.  It's a part of the past.

It's a slight problem really. The only problem is sudden host migrations if the host ragequits or the game for some reason picks someone with a stuffty connection to host.

Couldn't you more or less work around this by getting a dedicated physical server and running a copy of the game on it with a spectator bot hosting the server?

What?  Which is better, 10,000 dedicated servers with 0 players, or pressing a button and getting in a game?  There's only hte migration issue.

Which is better, having a variety of quality servers to choose from, or having stuffty home hosted servers on the four most popular maps in the game?

Several dedicated servers for each gametype and multiple lobbies on each server.  Press the button and you go to the fastest dedicated server and find a lobby that isn't full.  Merge nearly empty lobbies with almost full lobbies, etc.

Like L4D?

Same goes for both.

Look the only things that impact the game negatively in terms of multiplayer is a server where the host has a stuffty connection or host migration which usually takes less than a minute. Its really not that bad. Plus if you download it fast enough you could be playing with us in the other thread.

I kinda miss the admin's ability to kick hackers. A reason I miss the old server method of CoD 4.

Then again, my friends and I downloaded a program that allows the MW2 host to kick and ban any player they choose, just as long as they're hosting. The fact that my computer is pumped with RAM means I host a lot, making hackers (kind of) a thing of the past.

Now if only IWNet didn't stuff itself constantly.

I'll probably save up and get it some time next week. I spent a stuffton of money on the sale so I don't want to piss off my parents too much by blowing the majority of a single paycheck on a $60 game. Well it's either that or wait for the unlikely scenario that it is on sale.
