Thanks, but now I have more
1. What are the different types of bullets, not caliber, but like hollow points?
2. What are bullets and casings made out of?
3. Are high powered automatic sniper rifles like the one in L4D2 a good idea for close quarters?
4. How much penetrating power does a 9mm, Standard AKM round, and a .50 Cal bullet have?
5. What is the difference between Buckshot and Deershot?
6. How does a safety work?
7. Are double magazines a god Idea in combat?
1. The most common are Full Metal jacket, Hollowpoint, Softpoint, and roundnose. There are TONS of types of bullets though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullet#Bullet_abbreviations2. Copper, lead, and tungsten are common materials.
3. No. They're elongated, which makes them easier to hit off-course (you can stop a shooter by grabbing the barrel and simply pushing it, it's leverage), and rifles are made for a longer distance, making them hard to shoot accurately in a cqc situation. They are a terrible idea.
4. A 9mm typically does not have an exceptional amount of entry power, but an AKM round (7.62x32) has quite a bit more, enough to penetrate brick in some instances. As for .50, it depends entirely on what is firing it.
5. Nothing because they're synonymous.
6. It blocks the trigger from releasing the firing pin/hammer, preventing the gun from shooting. On SIG P229's however, the safety is the added weight on the trigger, making it harder to fire for the first time while the hammer is not roostered, and there is a deroosterer switch on it.
7. Like G36 stackable mags, or like the taped MP5 mags from DIE HARD? It depends on HOW MANY you have, because they all add weight. In pairs, yes, they're a decent idea. It cuts down on reload time by a lot, but two mags isn't all that heavy. Any more though, and it becomes a hassle.
I have a couple more questions about guns.
A bullet is loud because it breaks the speed of sound, right?
No one answered this: The report from firing a gun is loud because both the bullet breaks the sound barrier and because when you fire a gun, the gunpowder EXPLODES. There ARE, however, subsonic rounds that travel at about 330 mp/s (Speed of sound is 340 mp/s) which are quieter.
Bullets are not loud... Explosions are loud, and gunpowder explodes.
Yes they are, they break the sound barrier.
