I think until people fire weapons (of different calibers even) in a range or hunting, they'll keep having those wet dreams about firing Desert Eagles with no recoil into hundreds of bad guys (them terrists!!).
Sawed-off shotguns are usually lower recoil, because the barrel length reduction results in less kick (so it can be operated with one arm). As one person told me about the sawed off shotgun, it's only for home defense. Close range shut down of whoever is in front of you (even if you aim it in the direction they're facing). They're crude, often times modified with hair triggers, and downright dangerous to the user and the intended target. The spread created by shooting them is larger because there's more than 10+ inches of barrel typically missing. It's easily concealed, and that's why cops hate them so much.
Well, most shotguns you will purchase
aren't rifled. The ones that are usually are for higher accuracy/range, which is the whole purpose of rifling barrels. When you talk about the "spray" coming out of the bore, it's typically called to as the pattern or the spread. Shotguns can be tricky to classify since you don't need a specialized shotgun to fire a wide variety of ammunition. They even make ammunition designed to do the maximum damage with the highest entry or highest velocity reached by the projectiles. What most hunters use in states that have legislation against the use of buckshot or rifles is a deer slug. Deer slugs have a smaller range and pretty much look like a lead thimble.
