Author Topic: The Weapons Stereotype Thread  (Read 119439 times)

You can never rely on video games to be realistic. If you want a realistic experience, go visit your friendly neighborhood army recruiter and go into active service when we're in a war. Sure, shooting in a video games is easy enough, try shooting when you're under stress, getting shot at and likely tired and sweating.
Run 6 Miles, Play CoD in the middle of a Paintball War.

Well THAT'S smart!

IMO games portray only about 10% realism, which is usually from facts, statistics, events, and names or things.

Video games can't simulate your real internal feelings if you're friends been shot, stamina if you've ran a mile, or you're morals. There's no real care if you die because you're adrenaline isn't actually pumping, you're not dirty and cold lying on the ground in the rain waiting to ambush people, and you're not fearing the enemy or consequences of your actions.

That only comes from real life war

you're adrenaline isn't actually pumping
I'm not sure if this is adrenaline but I tend to get really tense and excited (for lack of a better word) when I'm in a stressful ingame situation.

Of course, not nearly as much as I would if it was real life.

well yeah sorry that's kind of bad wording. You're adrenaline can pump (mine does sometimes) while playing video games, but of course I meant it yeah in a real life like "oh stuff there's an Insurgent right in front of me and I have a ghillie suit, if I make any movements he will see me and I will die" kind of adrenaline, or the adrenaline if bullets flying past your cranium lmao

I feel I started this current discussion, so allow me to say that I meant ArmA is the most realistic FPS I know of as in the weapons and vehicles and stuff are realistic. You're all right. You cannot accurately simulate the FEELINGS of war without actually being in it.

The closest you can get to that is Airsoft or Paintball because you actually fear getting hit by a BB or paintball. Same situation with stamina and being nervous.

I have a BB gun

a slightly snubnosed 8-shooter

This is what bothers me and my brother most about video games.
"oh I shot this guy from a shotgun at a distance, it hit him, but that just made him get jelly in his eyes."

14. Auto Shotguns
Auto shotguns are mostly only present in CS:S and CoD. They're not that common in the real world for the same reason an automatic pistol isn't. A shotgun produces a lot of recoil with one shell, firing 12 of them in rapid succession is a good way to dislocate your arm (unless you're firing a 20-gauge). Semi-automatic shotguns, however, are only really popular in the civilian world. Shotguns don't really have a place in the military, except for door breaching (overseas we have charges for that, in the states we have door breaching shotguns). Reason being is that a rifle is more efficient than a shotgun in nearly every way in battle. If you read above, you'd realize why a shotgun isn't that good of a weapon. Now make it fire 30 rounds per second and you've got a sweet money-burning gun. Now, the reason semiauto shotguns are popular in the civilian world, is for target shooting. Go Google Tom Knapp, he's the spokesman for Benelli shotguns, and one DAMN FINE shot. Actually I'll do it for you: http://www.tomknapp.net/ Benelli produces exclusively civilian shotguns, both semi automatic and pump action. In summary: YOU WILL NEVER SEE ANY SELF RESPECTING SERVICEMAN USING AN AA-12 BECAUSE IT'S A GIGANTIC MONEY WASTING PIECE OF stuff.
When I first saw the AA-12, (no I saw a video about it before MW2 was out) I was actually quite impressed. But it's easily understandable that it's not going to be cost effective.

The real life shotgun spread was a little large in my opinion.
I think the spread would be a tad bit smaller.

It really depends on what shotgun you're using.

Thoughts on Sui/Gui/Whatever Infinity pistol and Steyr SPP?

CLIP VS. MAGAZINE
There is nothing more annoying than this:
Hey how much does your clip hold I got like 12 rounds in my clip you might need to reload your clip
STOP. STOP RIGHT THERE.

Holy mother of god:
A stripper clip is used to load a magazine, typically of WW2-era automatic rifles like the M1 Garand. A magazine is the box that holds the ammunition before firing. Some guns have built-in magazines (again, WW2-era rifles), but all magazines accomplish the same thing: They hold ammo. Stripper clips are just like airsoft speedloaders, they only load a magazine.

I can't seem to get this through the thick skulls of the apparent "pro gamer and gun expert" people in the grade. There's even one door bell who thinks that a clip is a magazine that fits on the top of a gun. Assuming any exist.
