So you're pissed that the norm is now realism over crosshairs?

VATS is cool simply because of the slow motion stuff but honestly, it's a cheap way to do combat, makes no sense in the context of Fallout 3 (over Fallout 1 & 2), and gets old fast.

Tell me, how would you rather FPS games did aiming?
Once again, I'm just tired of every single FPS using sights.  I would rather have one game or two having sights instead of every single one.  For your VATS issue: Then don't loving use it.

Oh man, would I love to use the regular FPS system in Fallout 3, but oh wait, it's broken. Boy, wouldn't it have been nice if I explained why it's broken?

Seriously, Fallout 3 would've been so much better I didn't go up to someone, point a pistol at their head, fire, have it say "xxxxx head crippled" but still have around 90% health. It makes no loving sense and it seems like they tried to rip it out of a D&D esque "roll for your hit chance, roll for your damage, roll for their defense, roll for their evade, etc." system.

Oh wait, I did.

It's an RPG game, it's not a normal FPS.  Get used to it.  You aren't just going to be spoon-fed.

Oh no it's not realistic enough

It's after a loving nuclear war, their brain could be in their ass and that would be considered normal.

Broken =/= Unique

If they wanted it to be an RPG game, then they should've found some way to make VATS not suck, like force enemies to use some kind of similar combat interface or do a real turn based combat system like the first two but in 3D or some stuff like that and have no FPS option. My problem is is that because it had guns they figured they needed to have some kind FPS in it but they said "hey this is an RPG and the last two games were turn based so let's make some half assed semi-turn based combat option but also coddle FPS gamers kind of". It got caught in the middle and had SO MUCH combat that the whole thing ended up feeling clunky and weird.

You don't even know what an RPG game is.  FO3 is an action RPG, it's still role playing.  My understanding is that you're expecting an FPS game being spoon-fed to you, then you get a new combat system so you cry.

if it was slo-mo like in Red Dead Redemption it would be better, instead of pausing it.

Stop using that, I don't expect anything spoon fed to me.

I really think that you're not understanding what I'm saying. I wouldn't care what Bethesda did, they could've made it completely an RPG and have some kind of turn based combat in 3D or they could've made the combat completely FPS based BUT they tried to do both and elements of each leaked into each other and it ended up feeling really loving weird.

How is it really weird?  You only didn't like the lack of headshots and D&D style injuries and such, I find that to be a really cool combat system in a world full of being shot in the face and waiting for the blood to jump off of your face.

For one thing, in non-vats combat you had to use a TON of ammo to kill anything more powerful than a raider. Super mutants take forever and a lot of ammo to kill, Enclave soldiers, etc. This wouldn't be a problem if you had access to an abundance of ammo, but this isn't the case. In VATS you never did enough damage on any of the stronger stuff to make it worth using, that is, of course, unless to take the "run up to a super mutant with a combat shotgun and aim for the head" approach, but at that point you're really using VATS as a semi-cheat.

Yeah, I always thought that Dead Eye in RDR was like VATS but better.

The only reason Fallout: New Vegas looks like it has identical graphics is because it's based in the same engine.

If they did indeed remove VATS, I'm going to miss it but it made combat too easy.

Does anyone know if there's a GTA5 coming out anytime soon?
