Quote
After Shepard destroyed the incomplete hybrid, Harbinger released its control over the Collector General, whose eyes lost their glow for the first time, suggesting that it was always under Harbinger's control. In the final seconds after being released, the Collector General appeared to be confused or dismayed at being abandoned suggesting some level of intelligence and emotional capability remained.
Makes you wonder.

Were the Collectors always bad or was it just the Reaper's control over their leader?
Would they have still done what they did had the Reapers lost control over them?

I don't think the collector general was alive after being let go. It looked to me like the body just went limp.

Even if it was still alive, I wouldn't describe it as being "dismayed." Confused? Sure. But I thought mordin said something about collectors having no emotion whatsoever.

They are genetically altered Protheans just like the keepers were also genetically altered by the Reapers. They probably wanted to serve the reapers because of their modification.

brb buying ME2 dlc

Get Overlord.

Like seriously.

Where did you read that?

mordin

Yeah the collectors are modified protheans.

Collectors are not protheans anymore. They were made from protheans but have changed an incredible amount. We humans probably have more in common with mice than collectors do with protheans.

Where are you getting this information?

The protheans have undergone extensive genetic rewrite and cybernetic modification, but nothing says they changed that drastically. It's probably a much more advanced version of the same technology that turned humans into husks.
