Author Topic: A Civil iMac Versus PC Thread - Read OP before you go PCFanboy-ing.  (Read 11089 times)

Picture is semi-related, don't argue about this.

My Grandmother is getting a Computer. She has never had a computer before in her entire life. She is 87.

I told her to get a nice HP All-In-One Desktop with touch screen capabilities, and Windows 7 Home Premium. (Came to only about $650).

My parents told her to to get an iMac Desktop with the lowest hardware, and the newest OS X Snow Leopard. (Came to about $1200).

I need you guys to find some valid hitpoints on both the Macintosh Computer and a Microsoft computer.
I will add a poll above, just to vote simply.

All users must post two negative points and two positive points to both OS's (once). Other than that you can just discuss.

Here's an example:

Windows
Pro: Newer OS's are easier to use, can support games.
Con: Can crash, get viruses, hardware can sometimes fail.

Mac OS
Pro: Super easy-to-use GUI. Comes with all the stuff you need.
Con: Can't support games, they can also get viruses now.

PC

Pros:
Supports almost any program
Doesn't rape cpu or ram

Cons:
Windows Defender doesn't do stuff
Vista

Mac
Pros:
...

Cons:
Rapes your cpu and ram
No compatible programs
Costs 2x as much as a PC
Specs are lower than most PCs
Etc.

Most people say PC due to games and generally cheaper.

But I highly doubt your grandma is going to be playing Modern Warfare 2.

I would suggest a Mac if the money is not an issue. They are seemingly simple to navigate with and have a polished, cleaner look.

Since when are macs "User Friendly"? Lack of right click makes it a forget fest to navigate.

here we go again :I

mac or PC > Linux

Linux is actually a good OS if you have an IQ above -1.

Despite the fact you idiots think that she should buy it just because it has games.

1. Retired people have the money to buy a mac.

2. She's a loving grandma, a user friendly thing with less viruses is perfect for her.

3. Why the forget would a 60-80 year old grandma play counter strike source?

But if your  grandmother is smart enough to stay away from sketchy websites and knows how to use her AV, then go ahead and buy a PC.

Oy, forgethead, I have a few macs in my house and they have a goddamn right click.

And you're not following the rules. You must have a good point for Mac.
