My brother has had similar issues. In fact, the exact same one. :o
Even so, when you do feel yourself getting angry, take a step back. Think for a second and ask yourself why you're angry. Take calm, deep breaths and express (whether it be to a another person or to yourself) how it's making you feel in full detail.
Also, tension builds up in peoples lives. Perhaps you're stressed. Try taking up a sport or hobby that will enable you to release that backed up energy safety and productively. And I warn you, don't make a habit of hitting things when angry. It can release stress, yes, but it can change into something more serious. I know people often use the excuse "Better than hitting the person that is angering me", but you really shouldn't want to punch a person in the first place. :o
