Author Topic: RTB Premium Service  (Read 25019 times)

I won't take the premium service once it really is there, but it is a good idea.

However, you ask money for an add-on, not directly, not forced but you still ask it in a more secretive way.
But i guess Baddy's okay with your idea.

But yeah, you should do that.
He's not forcing you in any way. You can still get the normal RTB with all of it's current feature for free. He's just asking for people to donate, then they get a badge and a few features. It's like some games real money item malls, you don't have to use it, but it isn't required to play.

I think if I was constantly putting money into something I would at least want donations for my hard work.

I'm all about self-sustainability. Having free eggs and milk from the cows and chickens in my yard would be very handy.
I know it's a joke, but raising chickens ends up costing far more than you save on eggs. The eggs taste better, though.

I'm not too keen on hosting private "RTB Premium" servers. I don't think how much money you're willing to pay should define who you get to play with.

As for payment options - I think I'll go with PayPal and Amazon as the two options. I will also accept the delivery of live farm animals as payment if PayPal or Amazon are not possible.

I'd rent a dedicated server if a trusted source like RTB were offering it. There are currently few servers of merit with consistent uptime and dutiful moderation. It is already possible for most people to host their own servers, thanks to recent updates made to BL, so offering such a service wouldn't encroach upon number and/or variety of servers available to players. If anything, a player consistently paying for a dedicated server is more likely to maintain and be active in it, as are the players who can then come to rely on the server being online and their creations being ever visible to other players.

If you created a simple way to setup a paid, dedicated server through RTB, I'd be in line for renting one. Your experience and resources in relation to the RTB service make you the ideal person to setup such a service. "Owners" could choose from the add-ons already being hosted by RTB, and presumably all of the other server options would be available as well.

The idea has merit, and I believe it is worth a second thought.

I already tried my hand at hosting a dedicated. I hosted a dedicated while playing online games like Borderlands and was able to host with no one reporting any lag.

Except keeping my loud gaming rig on overnight isn't exactly in my plans.

One of the main limitations of servers run from players' home PCs is that they are rarely online 24/7 for a variety of legitimate reasons. They can also suffer from a lack of available bandwidth should the host try to use his connection for other tasks. A game hosted remotely is generally not subject to either of those limitations.

Just to say that most of the blockland population (not all) won't buy this. I'm not saying its a bad idea, but most of the blockland community doesn't have their own credit card (Therefore, no paypal either). The problem with this is that most kids will ask their parents and the response will most likely be no (as this is not a game and just some extra subscription). This is out of my own personal experience. I'm 15 yet I still can't buy these things. I do not have a credit card so my mom has to buy it even though I have more than enough money myself to buy it. My mom will tell me no as it is some extraneous thing that I do not need, even thouigh I want it.

In the end, I would be willing to pay up to say 1$ a month or a 10-15$ one time fee.

How about a one time payment but:

pay 5$ to become a premium member with 1 premium feat.
pay another 5$ to get another premium feature

and so on.

And so on... Lol i don't care, whatever happens with this whole payment situation, I would be happy to pay at least 20$ right off the bat.

I would pay. Monthly or one time.

Not just for the features, but to support RTB.

True at last statement, but as you also said and i never ignored, you are not forced into using it, it's an optional add-on.

IF you are wanting to make money off of this then go for the monthly. If you are just trying to get some of your monthly payments for your servers done then you can make us pay 5-10 dallars.. Hell id even pay 20. But the thing with the one time payments, is you would eventually not have Blockland support to pay for it once everyone gets it. I'm just saying from a buissness standpoint you might want to go witha  base purchas price then a monthly cost... But im fine with the one time payment too :P

I'm sure most of us could.

Unfortunately I don't think many kids are able to afford that.

The amount of people that bitch about paying for Blockland, let alone RTB premium features. Although, its for additional features...
I don't see why not, there would be a lot of people probably happy to pay a fee. However, if BC did get released (which it probably won't) they might use it to their advantage, and try to offer the same service for free.

I'd be very willing to pay!

I thought about this quite seriously a while back. I had a proof of concept "booking website" running where you'd book a time slot, configure the map, preferences, add-ons from the RTB website, admins etc. but I just wasn't sure that the income from it would turn a profit from the cost of the dedicated server I'd be renting. I certainly wouldn't trust my home internet connection/hardware to run something reliably. If there's interest in this then I can look into it again.

However, if BC did get released (which it probably won't) they might use it to their advantage, and try to offer the same service for free.

Yeah I don't take BC seriously at all so there's no point discussing that.
