My middle school says you can't insult someone over facebook.

it is actually illegal to harass people on the net. there just is no way to enforce it.

but schools can get the law involved if they want.

Considering the internet itself is a creation maintained by private companies, and no data transmitted over it can physically harm anyone, there is no need to enforce anything on the internet.
