Coil guns and rail guns are similar in what their end result is, sure, but they're still different in how they work.

?

To me, kickback and recoil are the same thing.

I guess I explained it weird. My understanding is that it does have a force that reacts on it, but unlike a bullet, it doesn't push back creating "kickback". Instead, it pushes outwards.

Look up videos of railguns firing on youtube. You'll notice that they don't really move, but instead have a lot of reinforcement on the barrel.

what is MGS4?

Metal Gear Soild 4. It's a video game for the PS3, quite good actually.

Let me explain what a railgun is....

A railgun is a gun (Duh.) that fires a one pound steel rod that travels at eight, not seven (Don't trust Wiki, boys and girls.) times the speed of sound, powerful enough to reduce a M1A1 Abrahms tank to a pile of steel wool. That's the description for the destroyer-mounted ones. It fires this using a large electromagnet at the end of the barrel, however, the recoil, if not controlled, would send the ship with the gun to a firey end.

Bushido has one of these, i saw it at his betatesting server
