Okay, so I decide to use a continuous story to describe the future. You can nitpick some of them, or use them all. Many are based on facts and real-life plans present today.

2012Mass Self Deletes due to ridiculous claims of world ending. A town in Georgia completely depopulated due to the claims.
Obama barely wins second term.
2013Obama inaugurated in Washington D.C. for second term.
60% of US high school students drop out before graduating.
Terrorists strike three times on the same day. The day is known as The Day of Bridges because the terrorists blew up the Golden Gate Bridge, The Brooklyn Bridge, and The Key West Bridge.
Exact replicas of Golden Gate and Brooklyn Bridges planned to be built, Key West Bridge abandoned due to rising sea levels.
2014Multinational Corporations announce the newest advancement in mini-computers. The Celdeelux is a smart phone that resides in your brain and you can speak to anyone you desire with minute twitches of the eye combined with certain thoughts. Early models bulky, but become more refined over the following years.
Apple announces a real gaming computer. It fails miserably.
After the failing of it's new computer, Apple puts all it's resources into developing an actual computer based on the Celdeelux. The Mind-Mac is a huge success and redefines the meaning of "computer". Though it notable has hardly any games.
Microsoft and Linux join.
2015EU announces plan to dam the Gibraltar straight and build extensive levees all over Europe.
United States, Canada, and Mexico join to form the United States and Territories.
Africa, India, and much of Asia is hit by massive famines and droughts. Much of the population of these region sis forced to move elsewhere, or die.
Influx of tax money allows the US to revamp schools. Many fail due to the drying of funds after completion.
2016United World Government formed from the ideals of the failing UN. It plays a key part in world decisions, though where it has it's influence is unknown by the general public.
Obama's second term ends and Hillary Clinton wins election by a landslide. (Rural areas of the USA have practically been depopulated.)
Obama's last act is that of a extensive Mars Colonization plan. 50,000 genetically diverse people are put in a quickly built large space craft. with all the tools to start a civilization.
EU reported that Europe's official population is 2 billion. This does not include the many immigrants from all over the world.
Influx of South Asian and African immigrants put massive strain of Europe, US and T, and China.
Las Vegas abandoned due to the cost of importing water. The sand ridden ruins of casinos and hotels offer wonderful tourist options. New Las Vegas built in Oregon.
2017Hillary Clinton inaugurated in Washington D.C.
Large sand dunes of the expanded Southwestern Desert consume Austin Texas and Phoenix Arizona.
Riots due to extensive droughts cause the megalopolis of the Los Angeles-San Diego to shut down all highways and public transportation. Riots only end after 3-months when the weakening US and T army sends missiles to the major riot sites.
Northern California shuts off water from the many aquaducts to Southern California. Over the next month, a mass exodus of 40 million people from Southern California head towards San Francisco and water. Around half of the people die from exhaustion.
The influx of people from the droughts put Northern California in a state of overpopulation. The 20 million who survived the exodus join the 25 million already residing in San Francisco. Massive cheap apartment towers built in a matter of 2 months.
The National Grid falls apart. Each city required to provide it's own power.
Canada and Russia's massive tundra thaws. immediately after, large-scale subdivisions pop up and new cities are created.
Massive farm towers are built in the newly-thawed tundra. These towers will produce much of the World's food for the following years.
2018The weakening power of the EU finished it's last planned project. All major European coastal cities finish large scale levee programs. The Gibraltar Straight is dammed to protect the Mediterranean areas from coastal flooding.
After large-scale evacuation plans, Mexico and the Southwest of the United States are left to the growing North American Desert Plateau.
New York City, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Seattle begin a extensive flood resistant levee program to be completed by 2020. Other North American cities in Canada follow suit.
Large-scale famine hits the Western World. Even more so then before, humans look toward previously protected animals for food.
China's population reaches 3 billion.
United States and Territory's population reported at 3 billion.
2019United World Government fails to regulate the consumption of rare and endangered species.
After years of testing in laboratories in Silicon Valley, Fusion power becomes a reality.
Two year long Colonization Flight to Mars reaches planet surface.

Equator deemed uninhabitable due to extensive dust storms and a regular temperature of 115 F.
Levee program of inhabited major North American Cities is completed to late. Only New York City's, San Francisco's, and Vancouver's levees are completed before large-scale flooding hits North America.
