Author Topic: Help with a stupid project  (Read 991 times)

So I was assigned to do this survey as a project for my mediocre psychology class, and it's due tomorrow. Problem is, I don't actually know very many people of varying age, so I figured I'd ask you guys.

I don't need names. All I need is age, occupation and gender. Of course, if you're in high school or middle school just say that.

Answer the questions as seriously as you can, and as honestly.

1) What do you think is the goal or purpose of psychology?

2) Do you believe that psychologists know what causes human behavior?

3) Do you think that psychology will ever completely explain why we do things?

4) Do you think that a psychologist can really help a person with his or her problems?

5) Do you think that psychologists should do experiments to try to discover what causes our behavior?

6) What activity or behavior do you think is the hardest to explain? (answer may vary)

I would help but..
I'm 12 and I don't know any of this stuff.

I'd help if it weren't for the age piece. :c

You can answer if you're 12

there's no age limit

1) To get deep into something and find out everything possible about this single thing (like a human).

2) I do.

3) As long as the term "god" isn't involved, yes.

4) From what I experienced, yes.

5) Depends on the behavior they'd want to discover.

6) I don't know.

And if possible, I'd like to be credited for what I just wrote:

I'm unemployed as of now, but I do sell goods at a market. So I suppose merchant. :o

1) To search the human mind and decipher reasoning behind emotion, thought, actions, and personality, among other similar aspects of the mind.

2) To an extent, yes. Of course, though, there are always things that are yet to be explained or that yet to remain a constant from person to person. But we still have quite a way to go.

3) No. Once again, to an extent we do know and I'm sure we will know more, but there will always be some oddities within the mind, just as there will be in the universe around us.

4) The greatest psychologist in the world can only take a person as far as they are willing to go. The goal of a psychologist is not to solve somebody's problem, but rather to get them to a point where they can understand why or if it is a problem in the first place and to guide them through the troubling time; They are a third party who are meant to be caring and empathetic, not judgmental and demanding.

5) In some cases, yes. While I believe some matters are better left a mystery, I think there are important matters which we still should explore.

6) Love. True Love, by the definition I work under. To me it is unexplainable in most senses of the word. No matter how many tests or experiments a person may do, that interconnectedness; that togetherness; that being is one that can not and should not be explained.

that being is one that can not and should not be explained.

1) What do you think is the goal or purpose of psychology?
To accurately connect environmental input to human emotion, behavior and actions.

2) Do you believe that psychologists know what causes human behavior?
To a certain degree yes.

3) Do you think that psychology will ever completely explain why we do things?
I think psychology will be able to make increasingly accurate generalizations about human behavior but never get it down to a precise science such that a fully trained psychologist could accurately predict emotion and actions 100% of the time.

4) Do you think that a psychologist can really help a person with his or her problems?
Yes.

5) Do you think that psychologists should do experiments to try to discover what causes our behavior?
Yes.

6) What activity or behavior do you think is the hardest to explain? (answer may vary)
Love.
