I have always thinked of putting Physics in Player parts like Bricks and then add a Force field that keeps them together.

There is a mod that has Tumble on Death and Gore combined. It's pretty funny to go explode in a shower of body parts and watch them bounce around.

a good way for trying this ragdoll think is doing it like the game interactive buddy, no arms no legs just hands and feel with  a torso, like that.
