200 Triangle Character Competition!Ends October 31st!Its about time I get to see what 3D modellers of Blockland are really made of, with a low poly character competition. I thought about this over the past few days and I thought I'd give it a go to see how well people actually do. Why you want to enter this you might ask? Well the prize is a
$5 game on Steam, easiest $5 game you'll ever get? Probably not but its all in good fun and practice anyway. The competition ends on the 31st, so make sure you get all your crap done by then and post it because on the 1st (after I get some sleep from the 24 hour Halloween game comp I'm going to) I'll be judging all submitted 3D Characters and tough to anyone who didn't submit in time.
Rules of Entry:- Maximum 200 Triangles or less
- Texture resolutions are restricted to 256x256 or equivalent (E.g. 128x512 or 64x1024)
- Post screenshots of your 3D character below with a link to a ZIP containing the 3D model and Texture (Export as .3ds)
- Rig your character and do a short animation of your character and put it on YOUTUBE (OPTIONAL but recommended)
- A 3D model thats actually yours, I'm not even kidding.
- You cannot ask me, Packer for advice or comment on your current progress, I will not respond.
- You are allowed scenery/other models in your animation/screenshots and they have a limitless poly count.
However, any weapons/swords/shields etc that the character always holds on their persons counts towards the poly limit.
What I'm looking for:- Originality, its nice to have something original.
- Character that expresses Emotion, even if its a static object give it emotion.
- Models that you have spent time on, it really shows when people don't.
- A Textured character, a character thats actually textured. (I expect you to cry when doing this BL modders)
- Animation, animation will really show off your character!
- Lighting your character, I like being able to see the character and lighting can really shows it off.
- Shading, use those smoothing groups people and properly!!!
- Some scenery to show off your character is always nice, but just because you can it might make your character look worse.
- Presentation, if you half arse it then honestly you don't want to win in my opinion.
- A short description of the character, where has he been, what does he do. Is he anything special or an ordinary Joe?
This isn't a themed competition so let your imaginations run wild! You got 200 triangles think as many ways as you can utilise each tri, think about using transparency in your texture for extra detail. Get to it people, you got 9 days and if you dedicate 30 minutes per day to your character thats 4 and a half hours work on the character.
Note: I may update this post so check it every now and then.
