When I played Yume Nikki for the first time, it was night with all of the lights off and whatnot. I had dreams of UBOA sending me away and Sensei dying front of me.
The next night my solution was to play it with my wife. Still enjoyable but not as nightmare inducing.
tl;dr play with people.

it's like the most scarest game out there

I've played this, and too me, the scariest game is Dead Space. Actually, this game is a children's horror game compared to Dead Space.

Stuff jumping out is not scary. It was like Resident Evil 4 in space.

What makes Amnesia so scary is that you are completely helpless to defend yourself, and you have absolutely no idea what to expect. Dead Space is just walk for it a bit, stuff jumps out, shoot it, kill it, keep walking. It's not really scary when you can just blast through anything in your way.

Dkamm is right, what makes Amnesia scary is the thought of the unknown. You don't know whats around the corner or whats coming up next. When you run out of oil, you get this feeling that theres something right in front of you and you cant see it.
While dead space is just as she said, walk, something jumps out in front of you, shoot, continue.

She?

So... dkamm has a husband?

Yes, agreed. A BIG part of Yume Nikki is the fact that 1. there's no clear goal, you just go around doin' stuff 2. you have no idea as such what to expect ("whoa stuff everything's in earthbound now"), 3. the often repetitive and creepy musics adds to it, 4. random events of chance, such as seeing UBOA make it so much better (worse?), and 5. half the time (such as when sent to Hell) there is no way out but to go ALL the way back to the beginning.
