Author Topic: Apperantly Video Games Make You Smarter  (Read 2813 times)

Gamers are smarter because they are the smart kids from school who aren't good at sports.  Because they aren't on a sports team they have more time for studying, and are therefore smarter.

Smart kids =/= gamers.
Sports =/= stupid.

I've know this forever. If you break it down, in most cases, gamers seem to be smarter than most other people. But at the same time, they are lazier (As a whole, I know there are many of you who play sports and such, I'm included in that).
Does Wii Sport count as sporting?

I dunno about you guys but I've never studied for a test in my entire life, and I've only failed like 3. I can program, and I play sports. I'm on a competitive gaming team, yet it doesn't interfere with my boxing.

Its really not anything to do with whether or not you can be a gamer and play sports, its whether or not you have the motivation to get off your ass and do something :P

Does Wii Sport count as sporting?

If flexing your wrist is a sport.

Now that I'm thinking about it, StarCraft could be called a sport, so look at my post and replace the word "sport" with "Physical activities".

...Actually, screw it. You people get my meaning.

If wii sports is considered a sport, masterbation is too.

In which case 90% of you guys are in damn good shape.

Smart kids =/= gamers.
Sports =/= stupid.
Sports don't make people stupid, but it takes time away from studying.

I think we can generalize the fact that most smart males are gamers.

I played L4D all day in 5th grade, usually until midnight, and I still got A's. :D
Now I don't, but my grades are still good. I remember stuff more than most people. Those who play CoD:BO are kinda stupid though.

If your actually interested in this, use your headset to take charge in any co op or team game.

I'm not a woman and i can multi-task :c
Are you sure about that ;D

Women have to multitask. They have to be in the kitchen, making a sandwich, cleaning, AND taking care of your children at the same time. If you have them.
They were made for multi-tasking.

Us men can sit on the couch and do whatever we want.

That's how it's supposed to be.

Now on a serious note.

I think that video games do greatly improve your multi-tasking ability. =o

Jk.

If wii sports is considered a sport, masterbation is too.

Sports do not in any way make you stupid or decrease the amount of time you spend studying. That logic would only be valid if every single person spent all the time they have after school and on the weekends studying. The only factor that has a longterm effect on time spent studying would be the persons motivation to do so. I would argue most gamers study LESS then the general population.
Also studying is not a measure of intelligence. It might help you do better in school, but really school marks are no measure of intelligence either. School at its core is simply the art of memorization and calculation, it has little effect on your ability to think logically, fluently or your ability to solve problems presented to you without prior explanation.

And as thorax said, many gamers are physically fit and do play sports, myself included. I've been in hockey since I was 11 and at no point did it impede on my ability to study for tests and such.

the most potent way for videogames to improve your being is their edging up of your reflexes, cognoscente ability, and quick object connection.
on the other end of the spectrum, too much stimulus can reduce your attention span, long term recall, and ability to not think everything can be critical hit.
