TF2/Gmod doesn't know who I am

This appears to be a problem with all my games. In Tf2, it says "Welcome, Unknown" and I can't join any servers, but I still have my loadout and I still got my key for crate. And on Gmod, it gives me an error, something about not being able to detect my steam. I have steam for mac. Please help!

I hate people like that. Though I agree, Macs are unreliable and overpriced.
Can you help me? I heard defragmenting game cache or whatever helps, but it didn't help me for Gmod.

The mac is the source of the problems. Steam sometimes can't connect to them so you get the 'Unknown' bug.

Did you restart Steam? Someone I knew had this problem and something simple like that fixed it.
