You are overreacting.

He was doing his job.

Just admit you are wrong.  :cookieMonster:
He beat me to it.

It was like he was part of a liberal organization that is against kids playing M-rated games. Yeah, maybe I thought a little too much of it.
He made some comment that may have had a potential to possibly suggest your brother isn't mature enough, maybe, to play the mature rated game. That took like half a minute and he probably forgot about it soon after you left. Here you are hours later still raging over it.

the guy was doing his job of making people avoid stuffty games, why you so mad tho?

You extrememly overreacted

they are LEGALLY required to say that. the Game Rating Administration makes them.
Are you sure it's a law?
I always though the ESRB was a private corporation and you didn't *need* to get your games related when you published them. (for developers)
inb4 lock, please don't rage lock

It is a law in the USA...go tell a 5 year old to go into game stop and ask for Call of Duty...see what happens.

And the answer:
He's not legally required to tell you jack squat about the content of the game. What the hell is the Game Rating Administration? Game ratings are determined independently by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) which is a private organization. Of course major retailers such as Gamestop enforce policies that prevent the sale of M rated games to minors without guardian consent which is why the employee had to disclose the information. This is assuming we are all in the United States.

He was doing his job and was probably tired of saying the same damn thing to the hundreds of screaming kids that came in with an adult to buy Black Ops.

I thought of saying but I refrained

50 second Glenn Beck rant
Wow 50 seconds! That sure wasted your busy life!

You don't need to get your game rated, but retailers like Walmart and Gamestop do not carried unrated or Adult Only rated titles so there is a major incentive to receive a rating. Of course the rising popularity of digital distribution of games is reducing the need to have games rated to sell.

No it's not.

I will create an absolutely fun child friendly game and refuse to have it rated

I probably won't be selling any games I make anytime soon, but like you said, I'd go for digital like these games:
Minecraft
wurm
BLOCKLAND
steam games
etc.

When I got Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, all the guy said was "you know this game is rated M, right?" I'm pretty sure my mom didn't even hear him.

OK, you can still sell it online like Badspot does with Blockland or through a service like Steam.

No, it will be on consoles.

Ya, after you say it hundreds of times it just kind of slips out like that. The employee Oneo dealt with must have really been dedicated to his job to give him the full explanation of the game's content. He should be glad he got serviced by such an outstanding employee!

OK, sell it over Xbox Live, WiiWare, and/or the Playstation Network.
