Author Topic: AWVR 777 from "Unstoppable" - Update 3/30 - Complete!  (Read 77314 times)

I think it's time I update again. I made some additions, but have not yet posted them. Aside from some unfinished modifications on a few cars, and the beginning of the short cylindrical hopper, here is what I have not yet made known in this thread:

Here, I have made a basic note to myself about which end each car has its emergency brake valve, as far as I was able to discern in the videos I've seen on the internet:

I also have changed the window design on the side of the train cab. The locomotives have a sliding glass window, framed in white, which is what I am mimicking here:

Good news! This project isn't dead! I just needed the right reference material for the base of the cylindrical hopper, which I ended up finding here: http://dieseldetailer.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=dirt&action=display&thread=6321

Based on those pictures, I have built the undersides of both lengths of cylindrical hopper. Please note I have not yet made the doors at the bottom of the bays.

As usual, ratings and feedback are appreciated.

This post doubles as an update AND a help request!

Here's a piece of my latest progress on the train:

Now, I centered the image on that little step ladder on the corner of the train for a reason: on the longer cylindrical hopper, this is a bit of an issue. On the long cylindrical hopper, the ladder jerks out, as seen in this image, particularly on the right side:

The thing is, that bend is far enough out to be accounted for in bricks. Normally, I use this to make such small ladders:

1× pole, 1× pole
1×2 flat

However, since it bends outward in this case, I am not certain how to construct it. If any of you have ideas, I would greatly appreciate seeing them!

Remousamavi gave it a shot, with a pleasing result! If you think you have a better idea, by all means come forward with it, but this is currently how the small ladders look in the corners of the long cylindrical hopper:

Also, as the image's juxtaposition shows, train cars are big. In fact, it seems to me that perspective made the Blockland figure look larger compared to the build than it really is.

Made significant progress on the short cylindrical hopper. I need to figure out how to do the logo before I apply, it, though, hence the empty sides:

I also encountered a Blocklander by the name of Shadow 5435, BL ID 4042, who made a version of the two "lash up" locomotives, which are involved in one of the plots to stop the runaway train during the movie, in a style which greatly mimics my own. My hope is that with some dimension corrections, he can improve upon his locomotives, then also modify it into AWVR 1206, the "heroic" engine in the film.

Feedback and ratings are appreciated.

All of those hoppers look wonderful, as usual. Keep it up!

It's not dead! Woo! This time around I have finished the short cylindrical hopper. Perhaps the most important detail of this improvement is the recreation of the DV&K logo:

In this image you can see some additional detail, particularly on the rear face of the car:

Feedback is always appreciated!

Cool hoppers. What was that one supposed to carry?

According to what can be seen of the list in the film, lumber, apparently.

You should put update pictures in the OP so that I don't have to go hunting for your progress.

It's looking nice, though.

New progress!

The long cylindrical hopper is done!

Here's an image of the top of it:

With this, the consist can be lengthened!
I will add the new cars to the consist AT THE TOP OF THE HOUR. My server is up, and anyone who wishes to attend the event may do so. You have about fifteen minutes from the time of this post go get on!
A link to my server is in the second post of the thread. Otherwise, the name is "RMS Gigantic's AWVR 777 WIP."

I have added six cars to the consist: the long cylindrical hopper, the short cylindrical hopper, and four tank cars, in that order.

Here is the addition:

The consist is now 2 engines and 10 cars long. Here's a view from the back of the rearmost car looking forward:

Zooming in, this is how the front looks:

Also, a fun fact: this train how has every single car visible in the following image: http://www.railpictures.net/images/d1/3/3/2/4332.1258254929.jpg

Here is a comparable shot:
