Author Topic: AWVR 777 from "Unstoppable" - Update 3/30 - Complete!  (Read 76404 times)

For those of you who have seen Unstoppable, it is probably hard for you to forget the runaway train at the center of the story, especially its two engines, Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad 777, and its helper engine 767.

I have taken the liberty of recreating these two engines in Blockland scale, by combining plans of its type of engine with a very good deal of math. The following is the result. Feel free to rate!

Look familiar?

767's front windows are big enough to fit a crouching Blocklander, so yes, its front right window breaks on player touch.

Okay, so I think I'll work at recreating the full runaway train from Unstoppable in Blockland form, but I could probably use some help here. The runaway train in Unstoppable is said to have 39 cars, which, as I understand it, means that there are 39 freight cars and then the two engines (unless someone who is more knowledgeable about trains than I comes along and corrects me). This means that the runaway consist is made up of 41 units. Reviewing a good deal of footage both from the filming of the movie, and the movie itself, confirm that the train has 25 cars, which makes 27 units.
The problem is finding out precisely what all of these units are, specifically. Mission accomplished. To help in this, I am arranging the following list, numbering each unit of the infamous train, and giving a description of the look of each car.

A "--" in a slot means that the identity of that car is not known, and YOU can therefore help me find it.

Other Help Needed:
  • I need a set of dimensions (length, width, height, etc.) and plans to a cylindrical rail car
  • I need a set of dimensions (length, width, height, etc.) and plans to a box car
  • I need a set of dimensions (length, width, height, etc.) and plans to a tank car
A kindly group of rail-fans have helped virtually complete the above.

Other Useful Information:
  • Units 7 and 8 are of different lengths, with unit 7 being longer than unit 8.
  • Units 7 and 8 are identical to units 22 and 23 respectively.
  • the logo on units 13 through 15 have logos on their sides which look similar to some kind of very thick "H."
  • Units 16 and 17 carry loads of brown pipes being held down by yellow straps.
  • The three black open hoppers have "COKE SERVICE ONLY" written on the side.

As you should already know, I think this build is very accurate and you have done an excellent job on it. :)

Oooh very nice. I like it a lot. Nice job!

Is it just me or are there no sound add-ons for this type of build?

That was a cool movie.

Very nice. :o

It's not you. I think that we need train sounds. Now.

The subway sounds we DO have likely won't cut it for a diesel locomotive.

I love the movie and awesome train, nice work.

There is a Deisel truck startup sound and some car/jeep sound loops you could use as well. They're on RTB i beleive.

As for the build
10/10
Fantastic

...a very good deal of math...
AHHHHHHHH, MATH
Just kidding.

It looks awesome, like all of your builds. I wish you did construct the whole train, because two engines are not a lot.

Haven't seen the movie but it looks great!

I can make a train soundpack if you guys really want me to. It doesn't take too much out of my time but I'm still pretty dam lazy.

On-Topic: Nice build, btw!
