Reptiles are cold blooded. If a dragon was cold blooded, breathing fire for more than a fraction of a second would cause it to have a heat stroke and die because its body temperature would get too high and it doesn't have the ability to manage it.
Even if something is warm blooded and breathed fire it'd still get a heatstroke. Maybe it would last more than a second, but still.

Okay here's the big ol' critique from papa flamermesitts
I see you have an understanding for coloring, obviously modeling had a hand in deciding where and what color and light to have. The hair in the latest one posted looks unfinished as it lacks the lighting the skin has. The censored one also looks unfinished as the environment around the dragon doesn't look finished either, and it kinda reminds me of how vincenttheguy did his stuff. I dig that sergal thingy, as the lines look well done and there is definitely a sense of depth. The lower part of its body is a tad softer and not as definite as its upper body however. I also dig the guy mounted on the dragon, it reminds me of a cartoon's concept art, which is great in that regard.
I like your stuff, but I'm not versed in that kind of subject since I'm not into it. I feel like you mainly have to build up upon the consistency of your works. Hope it helped out!

Thank you. I'm still working on the two colored ones, the sergal and the dragon mount were just sketches, nothing serious.

I don't understand what you're saying here, though. The colorscheme was just something I picked out in the beginning because I saw it before and thought it looked good, and the lighting is really inaccurate so if you think I might've like, used a 3D scene/render to determine it, you are quite mistaken. :P

Welcome to the goddamn forums.
Yeah, I'm starting to remember the reason why I left...

I was basically assuming that by having worked in a 3d perspective in which light and form is a pretty big factor on how things look or whatever that it would be useful for working in a 2d perspective because then you're working on less of an area of form and lighting than you would working on 3d er something like that

Welcome to the goddamn forums.

Yeah I think you forgot how people are around here, but whatever! If you let the little complaints I make just because I'm butthurt, you're only making yourself look bad! Okay in my mind whatever, disregard it. A head of hair on dragons is just a pet peeve of mine.

Just as you feel like people are entitled to "compliments and critique" here, people are also entitled to their own opinions :P

I do like the shading and linework, if you want me to look at it an artistic standpoint. Perhaps I'm bitching because I'm a wee jealous that I was never good at drawing "feral" dragons, with the legs and all.

3D definitely helped my perception of form, but SketchUp is entirely devoid of a proper lighting engine that doesn't make the viewport lag like richards and I don't do any rendering work so I'm still very inexperienced with lighting. I need practice, is all.

his body isn't even in the picture, how do you know he's anthro

For one, he's wearing headphones and glasses.  That's remarkably humanlike if you ask me.

I define realism as how believable something is, so there is some degree of realism in everything. A dragon is not a real creature but if it were I'm pretty damn sure it'd have some sort of reproductive organs.
actually considering that dragons are based off of lizards, and more specifically serpents (aka snakes), i'd doubt they'd have conventional genitals and have something more like hemipenes, which look much more different and concealed than what's depicted.

Y'know what, no.

Not taking the bait this time. Believe what you want.

i'm srry but

whats wrong with putting a richard on dragons. Doesn't it even matter what kind? Its all made up anyway :U

Look, if you want to draw dragon richard because that's what makes you wet, that's fine, but don't go trying to justify it and argue about how dragons actually do have mammalian genitalia.

Dude have you even taken a dragon richard? I think not. Checkmate atheists.
