I think I'm missing something
probably, the only feasible way you'd get it is if you read homestuck

forget this stuff

The hands/feet feel off, and the shading in general looks strange.

wait that was a homestuck reference?
forget I should've gotten that, my friend tells me about homestuck all the time.

Looks nice, but as Hellhound said, the shading looks kinda weird to me
idk why but it just does

<blarg>

100% Paint tool SAI
Used only the airbrush tool and eraser
100% done with a mouse
22 layers at end result
49 layers total
I was not actively using a reference, just went by memory of what stuff looks like and general knowledge
I feel like adding an actual background and I have an idea of what I want to do for said background
(aaaa the eyes are too large)
the basic blending and coloring techniques are fine but the shading is not, it lacks direction and you're using the wrong tools/technique

you should never be using the airbrush first off, it's the antithesis of proper painting and it's both very lazy and very ugly in general. You also don't want to use black for shadows because it looks bad, its what people are saying looks weird, it gives it an unnatural and overcontrasted look. You should be using darker shades of the individual colors you're shading.

you really shouldn't just start with whatever you want and build off of it (in this case it was the shirt), it never ends well in my experience. You can't just skip to the fun stuff, you've gotta do the basework first

you have potential but you really need to be more patient with art in general, start with a simple base stick figure, make sure the proportions and angles are accurate, and build the form off of that, and make sure you're using references at all times when you're just starting out or you're gonna have a lot of problems later on

the hair is very two-dimensional

its actually really creepy

like its clearly supposed to be cute but its the sort of thing that- if i were to see it on a shelf somewhere unannounced- my first reaction would be to hide it behind something or turn off the lights and see if it moves

Yeah forget experimentation and challenging the status quo.

it looks like it would be good with better shading that also wasn't black
