thanks, i made the gif myself

yeah iunno shading after a photo is really easy and i could barely bring myself to actually post that here but i really want some feedback

What you're doing is an extremely good way to learn a lot about shading. The only thing wrong with tracing is that you don't learn anything about drawing from it (and that it's copying somebody elses work), but since you're more focused on practicing shading then tracing is a good way to skip having to draw something first and get straight to it.

The shading itself is really smooth and looks great imo. can only get better from here, and its already pretty good.

I'll have to somewhat disagree. Tracing I believe is just another form of referencing. I've retained a lot of what I learned about foreshortening and perspective from traces. I learn visually so this might not always be the same for other people. I eventually just stopped tracing all together and stuck to referencing. Its more of a gateway i suppose.

yeah, i have to agree, drawing that really helped me lead myself towards not sucking at drawing cloth folds, for example

Hey, is there a Free art program in which it is easy to use? I can't exactly find one anywhere. Any suggestions?
