Enjoy roleplaying? Try Highler Ridge, a dangerous roleplay of cops-n-robbers!

ABOUT Broken World is a roleplaying community project based in a shattered world, in the remains of nuclear warfare. In the undocumented past, there was a war that changed the world, but the name, like the rest of the world's past, is not known. The remains of some structures still stand, offering mild protection from the harshness of the lands scattered and dotted with radiation, odd creatures unlike anything ever seen by human eyes before, rusted metal, and other devastating damages. Only a handful of lives somehow have survived the toxic world, some with diseases, some perfectly well. It's the luck of the draw. However, they all seem to be in the same general area. Perhaps this area was spared a direct hit of the nuclear warheads, or perhaps these people were just lucky and somehow got their lives saved by debris. They do not know, nor will they ever...

The government has fallen into a deep state of depression... well, what's left of it. It's turned into a free-for-all, and the country lacks any true authority. They've bargained the skilled people left into working for them, programming and creating small computer-like objects that have been given to any of the survivors they have found. These electronics have been programmed to let the owners know of any important messages sent out by the government. These objects are sending out messages to the receivers frequently and the information they tell is vital; it would be very unwise to damage or discard one. These electronics are simply called [E]Boards. Your [E]Board does not take up an inventory slot.

RULES These are the simple rules of the roleplay, though these are not limited in the thread. These rules should be followed in the thread at all times though exceptions can be made as needed. Additions will be added and changes will be made as a purpose for them arises.

  • Be realistic. You don't start with an AK47 and you don't shoot everything you come across with super accuracy. Be reasonable and do things that make sense.
  • Don't hog the show - don't make post after post of solely your actions, let other players have their own turns and let them decide when to come in.
  • Controlling of other players is okay, but don't put them in stupid situations, ie they can't suddenly find themselves surrounded by blood-thirsty killers or inside a volcano.
  • Remember you're in a city - there are many things around you and many structures still stand. Keep in mind anything can be anywhere as long as it's realistic.

STARTING To begin, fill out that following template and post it. Note than you can be weaponless or not have any items if you feel that would be a cool thing for you to contribute. Keep a backstory for your character as well, you can't suddenly have a rocket launcher or anything. This pertains to the realistic rule. Anyways, template;

Name:
Status:
Location:
Items (0/4):
Gained:
Lost:
Wearing:
[OPTIONAL] Backstory:

Your name is obviously your name. In the roleplay, you will be addressed by your name. It can not be changed but you can develop a nickname as time goes on. Your status is basically your current health condition; are you normal? hungry? injured? unconscious? The decision is yours. Your location is an optional addition; if you don't know where you are, you can leave it empty or fill it with hyphens. Your items are limited by your backpack or other objects for carrying things. You can upgrade your backpack as you find a better one in the city. As standard, you can carry four items. Your ammunition for your guns is collective, but counts as an item. For example, if you have 44 shotgun shells, it's one item and takes up one space, just like it would be if you have 381 shells. Remember to keep updating your item count. The gained area is to state what you gained in that post, and the opposite for Lost. If you eat food, it's considered lost. If you're feeling peachy, you can give your character a background. Once this is posted, post this status bar (note that the font size is 7pt);

Name: NameHere // Status: Hungry // Location: Location // Inventory: Item1 (#); Item2 (#); Item3 (#); Item4 (#) // Wearing: Clothing // Gained: ItemGained // Lost: ItemLost

All items are stackable into one slot; don't forget that. If you have a banana, it takes up one slot, just like 20 bananas would.

FINALLY Let's get started! Remember to keep your status bar updated! Also, for those of you who are curious, I will not actively participate in the roleplay; I will be the one who manages the governments actions, the weather, your electronic [E]Board messages and other things directly effecting the roleplay. That's all I have to say; have fun!

Name:Naoto
Status:Very Hungry
Location:In the ciiity!
Items (0/4):Hat, another hat, pistol, phone
Gained:Sight of trainman2
Lost:Appetite

1) You didn't update your item slot count.
2) Since you have two hats, they are stackable.
3) "In the city" is too vague. If you know specifically, say so. If not, leave it unknown.
4) Your pistol does not have any ammo; was this intentional?
5) Your gained/lost is not realistic. Try again.

I smell some Fallout inspiration.

I guess I'll join in.

Name: Jake.
Status: Slightly hungry.
Location: In a small shack, built out of sheets of rusted metal, on the outskirts of the city.
Items (1/4): Rusty knife.
Gained: Rusty knife.
Lost: Apple, Apple core.

>I slowly wake up inside my shanty shack, I look outside the hole in the wall of my shack, serving as a window, looking over towards the wasteland outside the city, I eat my apple and throw the core into my makeshift trash can. I grab my rusty knife, and begin to walk out of the shack, pushing a dirty rag covering the door out of the way, and begin to head into the city.

Gained:research
Lost:Boner
[OPTIONAL] Backstory:WILL DO LATER

Thanks for taking this kind of seriously.

Some pointers;

1) You didn't update your item slot count.
3) "In the city New York City" is too vague. If you know specifically, say so. If not, leave it unknown.
4) Your pistol does not have any ammo; was this intentional?
5) Your gained/lost is not realistic. Try again.

You're all in the same city, which hasn't been named... Sorry, but I don't think NYC will do. Something more specific; top of a building, a gas station, etc should do nicely.

Thank you. Can you pick a last name as well? :o

Thank you. Can you pick a last name as well? :o
Erm, can we say my character has amnesia and doesn't remember his last name? I can't think of one right now so, yeah.

Works for me. :o

Gained: Nothing
Lost: Nothing

"Oh come on! You gotta let me past the gate!" I said to the guard in the box. "I have a delivery to make, made out to Leonard Wayne." The guard finally buzzed the gate open, and the armed patrol men stared at me suspiciously. Brooklyn had survived the war mostly intact,  and now is where only the richest of the rich reside in. Two guards followed me closely. Normally they wouldn't allow anyone in without an ID card that states that they are permitted entrance, but Leonard Wayne is the most important and richest man in New York. He runs Wayne co., they make weapons and ammunition, smelt metal, even make vehicles for use by the guards. Sure, they are crudely made, but well needed. He also saw the re-construction of up-town, even though it is mainly made out of crude metal and wood, you still need to have some money to live there. And Wayne Tower, the tallest building in all of New York, stood out as a relic from before nuclear Armageddon. The haze was thick tonight, and I coughed, and inhaled tiny dust particles from the rust storm that is brewing out on the horizon.

How was it?

EDIT: stuff, I got excited and didn't read about NYC not being good enough.

That was great! That's what I want to see in the thread, except;

1) You didn't update your item slot count.

But good. :3 I like the Checkpoint idea, I'll use it. :3

We can keep the NYC idea, actually.

>I reach the shanty side of the city, where the poor reside, I stop for a moment, on top of a hill, ignoring my E-Boards beeping, "Poor souls." I think to myself. I begin to head to the city gate, when suddenly two men jump out in front of me out of an alleyway, "Give us all of your valuables!" one of the guys shout, the other pulls out a knife, I quickly disarm the one with the knife and I turn to the other and notice he has a gun, "Drop the knife." he says, I drop the knife and he picks it up, the other guy punches me in the head, knocking me out...

I read my E-Board. We get these all the time. I laugh to myself. No biggie, just another rust storm. I do need to get inside, though. I turned the corner to 15th street, walking briskly and with purpose. "Delivery for Leonard Wayne." I said, holding up the package. The guard nodded and let me in, and the mansion was large and beautiful. I coughed, the rust in the air was getting stronger, so I pulled my shirt over my mouth. Only a few chips were taken off of the roof, and in the side, of course the windows were broken, but repaired with wood. I knocked on the door, and the tall, skinny man answered. "Hello, come in, my friend! I see you have my package, thank you very much." I sat down on his couch as he ripped his package open ferociously. What he held up was a larger eBoard, but it looked different. Instead of having a large chip form the side of it, it had an antennae sticking out of it, and there was a metal plating around it. "Ahh, this is the eBoard v2, and it is the only one in the world, my friend, you see, it uses technologies called "satellites"  that were placed in the air from before the war, and they were just recently discovered. What it does is you enter a location, and it tells you how to get there from where you are. Cool, right? that isn't the best part. Take a small blood sample, and you can monitor your current health status, radiation level, and your internal organs conditions! Like so." He then uncapped and pricked himself with a small piece of computer chip from his finger. On the screen, it said: Vital Signs: Good l Radiation Levels: 120 rads. Then he flicked the antenna up, and typed in Wayne Tower on the keypad. It showed a map of what New York used to look like, and then Wayne Tower. It showed the best route on how to get there, and things to avoid. I didn't notice the dust storm kick up until I looked outside. "Stay for a while, you best not go out there." Leonard said. "And please, call me Leo." He then added. I glanced at the eBoard v2. One in existence, probably the only one to ever be made.

Going to bed now. Good night.
