Author Topic: Looking for an Antivirus program  (Read 1060 times)

Because we've totally never had one of these before.

I've had lots of problems with viruses, of all kinds (AntiVirus 2010 was the worst, it made me rage). This one isn't going to be an any-program-accepted one, there are a few requirements.
It needs to be
  • Free
  • Not too resource demanding
  • It needs to function passively (I've never seen an AV that didn't function passively, but the internet can hold anything so it's worth a shot)
  • It should be able to locate and delete all or at the least most viruses

Anti-virus programs. The cure is worse than the "disease". Don't.

Avast
Microsoft security essentials
spybot S&D
Malwarebytes

For freeness, I'd say microsoft security essentials.

Malwarebytes
MB is more like a scanning program.
It is very good at what it does, though.

Who needs antivirus? As long as you're not stupid, don't use IE, don't go on random suspicious websites, and don't download random stuff, you're almost always fine. I used to run an AV, but they're just a waste of resources to me. Just get an active AV if you have to, a scan-only one like Malwarebytes. Wouldn't recommend not running one unless you're absolutely sure that you won't get a virus though.

But if you do want an AV anyway, just search "free antivirus program". Also, try this. Avast is currently the top rated one there.

I once had a rouge anti-virus virus.
It was not pleasant.

Words cannot describe how much AntiVirus 2010 pissed me off.

Hm, it's totally not a bad idea to buy an "antivirus" program off of the internet...

Get Norton 360.

Piece of advice: ignore this idiot.

It's not free, and Norton's stuff.

Microsoft Security Essentials.

Works like a charm and free.

avast

maybe if you're running some pos antivirus program but a good one like bitdefender doesnt use much system resources and can instantly block any malicious crap trying to get onto your computer
