Author Topic: Reality as we know it is a huge lie.  (Read 4730 times)

blood mary: look how deep my thoughts are

So he's saying that movement is impossible in terms of single frames, but multiple frames give the illusion of movement, much like a movie, when really nothing is moving, just a bunch of different 3D pictures.

Protip starfish: we don't do things in absolutes, it's something called relatives.

Jesus christ.
I'll sum it up.

Doing anything is impossible. If you want to walk one mile, you first must walk a half-mile.
To do that, you must walk a quarter-mile.
And so on, and so on.

By that standard, moving is impossible.
There is an almost infinitely small measurement of distance, which is as small as you can get.
You can't go half of it, you can only go the whole length.
Therefore, you go single-unit by single-unit, which is in turn just a section of a larger unit.

Just because you can continuously half something doesn't mean you can't get past it.

I can move 1cm, regardless of the fact that there is a half cm in it, and a half of that and so on and so forth.

As a functioning living creature, with a correct grasp on how I behave in the physical world, I can move.

This was the saddest attempt at looking intelligent ever

Movement Is Not Even Possible

As if being unable to complete a single goal wasn't frustrating enough, things get worse: you can't even move.
Consider, if you will, the example of a child jumping.
For motion to occur, the child must change the position he occupies.

In any single instant, if the child is in motion, he must either move to where he is or move to where he is not.
The child cannot move to where he is, because he's already there.
Likewise, he cannot move to where he's not, because an instant is but a single temporal frame, not unlike a photograph.

Since movement is not possible in a single instant of time, movement is not possible in ANY instant of time.
Hence, it is physically impossible to advance even a single inch.
i think i understand now
you cant move 10 feet in one instant of time because you must first move 1 decimeter?

This was the saddest attempt at looking intelligent ever
This was the rubbish that was all written in that Paradox and Impossible situations, topic we had a while back.
It was all proven wrong back then.

Look outside your window, you can see movement.
If you lock yourself away in your brain, you just get lost.
There's more to life than just thinking about it all.
i think i understand now
you cant move 10 feet in one instant of time because you must first move 1 decimeter?

But the time it takes to move that 1 decimeter is a small fraction of the time it takes to move 10 feet.
It all fits into each other. It's all relative.

Protip starfish: we don't do things in absolutes, it's something called relatives.

This is all theoretical bullstuff. Yeah, you can't go anywhere until you go half the distance. But you can still go the whole distance. Therefore... YOU CAN GO THE WHOLE DISTANCE. SHOCKING.

Even if this world is just a dream, well, I like my dream. I'll stay a while.

*magic portal opens to the left*

Go preach on the sidewalk or some stuff about how reality is a huge lie so they can take you away to a loony asylum.

And everything turned out more realistic than expected.

Go preach on the sidewalk or some stuff about how reality is a huge lie so they can take you away to a loony asylum.
Or go all Inception and kill yourself believing that life is a dream

That thing you said how it can be halved infinitely is stopped eventually, similarly to 3.33333 has to end in four eventually.
Otherwise movement would not happen.

But what if nobody invented measuring and numbers, then how would you explain moving?
