Not even close. The battles for this would be in real time. Additionally, everyone would start with the same polygon creature, but it would morph differently depending on the pattern of food it was fed.

What if it was incorporated into a new kind of gametype where players started off with a small polygon creature and could feed it different color foods? Depending on how you feed your creature, it would change it's appearance and get different weapons.

Then, after a set amount of time, all the players would switch from raising their creatures to playing as them in a battle arena in a battle royal type fight. Last one surviving wins the round.

The gamemode would essentially be rush-and-collect then battle.
