Author Topic: Definition of "Spam"  (Read 1688 times)

is this spam then? :D

Don't worry, i once built a whole skycraper whit 1x2 plates

IcyGammas dictionary...

Spam
1  One or more bricks, emitters, lights, events, projectiles, or vehicles placed in an impractical or malicious way which serve little purpose in use or design, esp bricks which are left behind or used only to obtain items or vehicles.

2  A chat message, typically more than one using the same content, posted in a way that un-necessarily interferes with other participants ability to speak or read the conversation on a server.

For me, Spam is something that lacks creative detail or effort in the production and end of it.

What if its minimal?
What if you can't appreciate the design?

Who are you to say its not detailed?

The only reason that spam 'myth' was invented is because when you type /clearspam it only clears the bricks that aren't on a baseplate.

Also, why do we have to build on a baseplate again?

Also, why do we have to build on a baseplate again?

The real reason is that clearing spam on a baseplate is easy because you only have to know out the plate, as some spam builds are made up of lots of individual bricks that would be slow to delete. While it may make spam clearing easier, the irony is that very principle just increases spam and creates less space.

Spam is canned meat, and will always be canned meat.

I consider sloppy events (i.e. lots of named bricks, unnecessary event loops, etc.) spam as well, at least for my own event builds.

Both examples the OP used can be justified.

If you use 12 1x1x5s, then it could easily be for texture purposes, such as trying to get the effect of wood planks. I do this all the time in my western build.

If you use 3 1x4x5s then it could be that it is easier to calculate measurements that way, like the the base you are using is 32x32. Or if you just don't want to have an uneven bit at the end.

It comes from old tradition, in the days of RTB when you could only build on a baseplate!

Attention: Spam is NOT defined as anything "Not on a base plate." as common myth claims.
This is because of the /clearspam command.

of text spam.

I agree with Icygamma's definition.

That example is not needed. Might be best to cut it out of the post. :3
