Yes it is. However, I think it would be only scary because you know those sounds aren't simulated.

but at the same time, what about when you get into those areas where bugs and stuff are crawling on your face
and that part with the noise and the blind monster.
lots of things would be more difficult and create more tension.

this subject is difficult for me to answer. I personally like Medieval, Pirate, Western, and futuristic in the sense of Portal.

I like medieval, because it's very simple, but there are quite a few things to do, but I like future games because of all the cool weapons and possible jetpacks :3

Lasers would be fun in real life, but for some reason its not fun for me in games. I don't think theres any games that include the black plague as gameplay, either.
