This has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Not to say its not true, but it just sounds ridiculous. That a set of companies can go toe-to-toe with it's own government and win just sounds totally absurd, even if the government has substantial evidence that what it's doing is completely unhealthy and bad for Americans as a whole, considering they're a huge waste of money.
I know it's ridiculous, but it's entirely true. The companies have the backing of all of their (still living) consumers, outlawing tobacco would stir up a hornets nest, and I can guarantee those companies wouldn't take it sitting down on the legal end of things. They have the best lawyers imaginable.
Then again, I don't even see the appeal to smoking. What do you think of when you hear "smoking"? I think of yellow gross teeth, nasty skin, horrid nails, and just the scratchiest cough ever. Blech.
This is when a dictatorship looks really good.In other words, a democracy has it's flaws.
Then it hardly sounds like the government has any control over its own country when you put it like that.
It would be like me shooting myself in the head and having the bullet go through and hit someone else.
No one has the right to tell someone else how much of something they can have (at least until it becomes a problem, like becoming intoxicated at a bar, but even then you really can't do much anyway). To do so is an infringement of civil liberties.
Smoking can remain legal, but it should not be done so in an area where it effects other people unwillingly. It would be like me shooting myself in the head and having the bullet go through and hit someone else.
Civil liberties is what's loving up this world these days. You can run around and do whatever the forget you want with it. Which, is loving ridiculous.
Yeah.. I'd hate to have the government not tell me what I can and can't do.It's a good thing the government knows how to treat my body better than I do or else I might get a little bit of relaxation! If I want to smoke, I'll smoke. If I want to spend a stuffload of my money on junk food and eat it in one day, I will. It's inconsiderate to smoke next to somebody and in some cases a law on public smoking is fine but to make it illegal all together is just wrong.
Once again. Should i make an Video game opinions thread for ONLY video games?
But seriously, *rights* as they are called, are getting way to out of hand. I can charge somebody with assault if I punch them in the face and they hit me back. Sorry, but; wat.
