Author Topic: RomShelf -Badspot's own emulator front end.  (Read 22328 times)

So, this is basically something that holds all your emulators and roms in one menu?

I know nothing about this kind of stuff.
As it's name says, it's a shelf, for roms.

How do I load my emulators into this?

IS THERE PS1
I WANNA PLAY HARVEST MOON
It's front end, not an emulator.

Bump for I need help and this is epic.

figured out it doesnt have those systems and its useless to me but i cant delete it!

It's not useless. Once you load actual emulators into it it acts as a library of games- like Steam for emulators. It beats the hell out of having a bunch of folders and either navigating them to through your emulator or finding them yourself. It's clean, slick, and has some nice features.

USELESS to me at the moment

well that's your own fault for being too stupid to figure out what it does, isn't it.

How to run games. (using MAME as a example)
1. download RomShelf
2. download MAME
3. put the MAME emulator in the MAME folder in the rom folder.
4. put a arcade rom in the MAME folder.
5. run RomShelf and press the pageup key till you find the MAME area of roms.
or however the forget you run it, this thing is goddamn complicated.

no stuff, it just wont run the damn things.
it leaves me at a grey screen when i try to run the loving things

It always says my ROM file doesn't exist. Also, I've tried like every method of putting my emulator in the ROM folder, and the emulator folder. No dice.

put the emulator in the emulator folder
go into the rom folder and find which corresponding folder goes with the rom.

This is not an emulator.  It is a menu for launching other emulators.  It gives you a unified interface for all of your emulators that you can operate from a joystick.  It is ideal for use in a custom arcade cabinet or home theater pc.  It is designed as a superior alternative to mameWAH, maximus arcade, etc.

You don't have to put emulators in the emulator folder, all you have to do is configure each system with the emulator exe, command line arguments and rom directory that you want to use.  You can use absolute or relative paths.  After that, just click "save settings" and "regenerate rom list" and you should be good to go.

Here's an example of my mame config:

If you don't know how to type in a path or how to launch your favorite emulator from the command line you are out of luck.  "Advanced" users only I guess.

nevermind i had to put the pj64 exe inside the emulators folder.

time to figure out how to get screenshots

All you have to do is put screenshots inside the romshelf/screenshots/n64 folder.  However, most screenshot archives I've seen are poor quality and are named stupidly.  Romshelf expects a minimal set of screenshots with no parenthetical codes like (U), (E), [B-1234] or whatever - that way you don't have to have a separate screenshot for each clone of a game.  I will probably make a set of n64 screenshots at some point.
