Let's Build: Brintston

How It Works

As with the similar thread following the progress of San Ramon, this thread will have community decisions based on a poll. However, things will be a little different. For example: There will be an actual need for resources, which, in the case of wood, you can get by chopping down trees; in the case of steel, you can get by mining for steel then refining it; in the case of -- well you get the point.

Chain-Of-Events

Various choices you make will have impact on later -- and sometimes immediate -- gameplay. For example, if you decide to reclaim farmland and don't put anything on it, and while there's nothing there a heavy rainstorm comes, the soil there might wash away and become ruined. There will be various other groups which you will eventually have to interact with. If you shoot them dead, then a loving war will start.

Lack of omniscience

If there is a hidden village that you cannot see, I will hide it on the world landscape so that you cannot, well, see it. However, direct signs of lack of trees in logically forest-like areas may point to as-of-yet unseen villages at a location.

Well, that's that, so let's get to it!
The first decision the new government (played by us, how exciting!) needs to make is where to put the lumbermill.

As you can see, there are two suitable locations. In my opinion, the blue one seems to be the better choice, as it's not restricted by the waterline of the harbor.

I say the blue place would be best for the lumbermill.

Yeah, plus it leaves room to build a shipyard right along the waterfront if we want to.

Exactly. Also, what year does this take place?

When it's built, the boundaries of the lumbermill's main building won't be touching the homes, will it? If those are in fact homes, I don't think that's a desirable place it put it. :o

I like the red location. My only suggestions is to add some varying terrain. Also I was going to make one of these. :c

Perhaps I'll just continue on my old minicity.

I was thinking it's probably about 1920, maybe 1925. Some year close to that.

Unfortunately, there's not really anywhere far away from the homes to put it. You can move it later, if you want, but right now we pretty much have to put it near the houses.

Also, there already is some varying terrain, it's just that this camera angle is basically facing directly away from it.

Here's a pic for you:

Well, I'm going to go play get sucked into Minecraft for maybe an hour three or four weeks hours, when I come back I'll end the poll, upload a new picture, and start the next poll.

Update: Got blown up by a creeper while working, now there's a gaping hole in my town hall. :c

Blue location won hands-down with five votes to one. Going to change the poll now.

The lumbermill was built successfully.

Deforestation has occured and the trees around the lumbermill are pretty much all slain. +50 wood.

Where should we put more housing? Choose a road to build and houses to build next to it.

My personal preference is for the red road and yellow housing. It puts the houses further away from the factories and allows for us to make what amounts to an industrial zone around the lumbermill. Also, I'm retconning the roads to be brown, so that will take effect from here onward.

I endorse this topic completely, and it has many interesting aspects that I haven't included in my own game.

I agree with your choice, Red and Yellow seems to work the best.

Hooray, Seal of Approval get! :D

Update: Well, I'm going to have to sign off for a while. If there's a definitive winner that I don't think any other option is likely to pull ahead of when I get back on, I'll end the vote, update, and start the next vote.

I vote for Blue, Yellow. BEACH HOUSE GET!

Red, and yellow, should make a larger area if we require an additional lumber mill, or a mining area.

Really? I couldn't join... :/

Mayhaps I'll try again when I get back home. I'm on the Flight Club's computer right now, and I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate it if I loaded up some foreign BLOCKLAND program.
