Little brother's computer broken. Please help. TRAVESTY!

what did you do?

I was able to start Windows in Safe Mode with a command prompt. I then did a system restore. It's currently restoring as I type. I restored to about a month ago. A month ago was good times man.

In any case, I have not yet gotten System Restore to work once.
I would suggest that you boot in safe mode, and try to run a virus scan.
Out of curiosity, does your brother have any irreplaceable data that he needs to have?

Because reinstalling windows would probably fix your problems.

I believe the problem may be physical damage to the hard drive. Considering buying a new one and just transferring all required data.

unless you don't understand that you can run any program through the task manager itself and you don't need explorer.exe .. which is what I had suggested to him. hence the whole "manually run explorer" and I'm sure he's smart enough to figure out he could type something else there too.

Obviously he loving tried that prior to your, and my, reply.

Also Gamefan that makes a lot of sense, I didn't want to suggest that since that's.. pretty serious, but my old desktop did end up having a forgeted up harddrive, which could obviously result in a forgeted up OS that you can't repair since the Harddrive simply doesn't function anymore to the point where you can fix it. At least you don't have to buy a whole new copy of Windows, if you can find an affordable Harddrive it's really not that bad, right?

locate explorer.exe in your system32
and copy that off of your flashdrive and put it on your bros

same thing happens to me, but it only lasts a minute or two

I've done almost everything within my power. I had acquired a bigger hard drive for his computer; Hopefully by only transferring the required information I will be able to get his computer working again.
