If you want to actually win, don't use a Bug-types. There are hardly any good ones.

Volcanora

I know, I said hardly any.
EDIT: I thought there were less than this: Accelgor, Forretress, Scizor, Heracross, Vespiqueen, Yanmega, Escavalier, Volcarona, Durant, Genesect, and Armaldo all have 450+ BSTs. Obviously movesets factor in as well, which makes some better even if it has lower stats. Second edit: Scyther has a BST of 500, I didn't check because it is first in an evolutionary family.
EDIT: So does Pinsir, I forgot about it because I'm a dummyhead.

13 good ones out of 63 ain't that bad.
Bugs are one of the less common types. It makes the terrible individuals more noticeable. If we listed all the good Normal types it would be maybe 20 out of like 100

I think this generation did a good job with some Pokemon. While others are way too overpowered to be called "good". Things such as Haxorus with it's monstrous Attack and Speed. Or even Escavalier with 10 resistances and also good Attack and Defensive stats. Overall, they could have done better passing out stats.

Escavalier is a steel type, any only steel type has 12 resistances.

Uh... Viridian City's leader is a Ground-type specialist. Giovanni. Which is super effective against Rock-types, but I think you mean Pewter City.

I meant there was something that super-effects rock types (Brock) (Mankey) <--- (left) of Viridian City.

I had a parasect in crystal, and it was actually really good.

Parasect is tied with Golem for the worst type combination there is.

so

It still worked though, all the way to red.

Just because it worked doesn't mean it was good. The only thing saving Parasect from being total garbage is it's wide variety of status afflictions it can put on an enemy. If you didn't have at least two status moves on your Parasect, you were using it wrong.

I think it had spore and growth, not sure though.

Some of those resistances aren't resistances after slapping on Bug type.

Now, off the conflict of whether Bug types are any good or not (which most of them aren't. Key word, most.), need strategy for Cynthia. I don't bother waiting for Level 70 for a chance. I have Level 60 Pokemon: Haxorus, Samurott, Reshiram, Sawk, Darmanitan, and Krookodile. Anything I'm doing wrong?
