Depends on what school, what area of the country. What grade. So many factors, in some cases yeah you're right but think about it. Nick says he tells other people not to cuss, and does it outside of school for fun. He's making it sound like doing drugs. Point being, Nick, you don't exactly sound like the type to harass someone with swears abound. Am i right?

At school after he said "Jerk" he was calm like nothing happened. He sat next to me and said hi, without bringing it up. (Does he have a facebook?!) Would be scary.

Regardless of what the word is, you can't get in trouble for something you say outside of school. I know it probably seems like school rules your whole life but you can only get in trouble for saying a "bad word" directly at school.

If your friend told administration at your school, they'd probably say "so?" and that would be it. I would watch the content you post on Facebook though, because future employers look at facebook pages when considering you as an employee. Just...in case you didn't know.

This is a pretty hot debate right now, and I don't think there are any laws about it yet. It's entirely plausible that you could get in trouble for this. I don't think you would get suspended for this though, but the counselor might want you and your "friend" to go through counseling.

Schools can and have intervened in off-campus issues between students, me being one of them. Just because it didn't happen on their property or their time or whatever, doesn't mean they can't resolve issues.

A girl in my younger brothers class got expelled from school for things she wrote on Facebook.

She made a post about her tutor group and how she hates everyone in it.
Making sure to insult most of them personally, including swears and curses.
She then also went on to insult their tutor, going into excessive detail about her being a slut (The woman is a married 50 year old Textiles teacher) and other obvious lies.

Anyway, my brother and his friends, since she was stupid enough to comment about people directly and openly, they saw her post, printed it and took it directly to their tutor.
Which got it sent to the Year Head and then furthermore onto the Headmistress of the School, and she was then expelled.
However, considering what you've posted about messaging, I wouldn't worry about it.
Your friend isn't likely to send it in, and if he does, either make it clear that he is just as bad, or take the punishment, which would definitely be little more than a warning or a simple detention.
Don't go fretting over it. It's not a big worry. Just be careful not to insult people over the internet who you know.
Just because it's online doesn't mean you can't get in trouble for it.
