Author Topic: Should I get CivilizationV?  (Read 1786 times)

Did you try the Civ 5 demo yet?

Agh I need to try this now, I forgot there was one.

I should try the demo...

Bump. Haven't tried the demo yet, installing it tonight. Want some more opinions though before I go about spending 50$...

I got bored and bought it.
Did like, 2 of the tutorials.
Never played again.

I love Civ 5.
I play as Washington usually.
In my current game the Russians are a super power and freaking scary.
They have half the continent while the rest of us share the other half.
I probably have the second biggest military. It's pretty fun if you ask me.
I didn't play the tutorial, just jumped in and learned from my first game.

Ya, that's basically what I just did. I played the demo to the full extent, which wasn't very long but gave me the just of it.

I think I'll be buying it. :/

There was a sale about two weeks ago :(

Didn't we already have a discussion that good gameplay can overcome slight graphic problems. Though I don't know exactly what you are referring to.

What? The graphics are fine.
Even if the graphics were bad, it would barely affect the game play at all.
It's the thrill of taking over half of a weaker empires cities and having them beg for mercy for you to decide if they live or not. Then another superior country is discovered across the sea and you get stuck in a war that tests your strength. It's an awesome game.

the graphics are also horrible
Wait, what?

What are you talking about? How can you say that?

I play in DirectX 9 because I run on XP
Oh, thats why.

Just saying, if you play the game/demo on Windows XP or just DirectX 9, the game will not allow you to choose settings higher than "medium".  It requires DirectX 10 to go any higher up, and DirectX 11 (with a DX11-working GPU) in order to go to the highest with tessellation (which looks REALLY awesome on the terrain).

The game itself is very fun, I love it and can't stop playing.  My only irk is that the game is subject to many crashes and I am 100% suspecting its the game's coding having some incompatibility with my hardware.
