Author Topic: Oh no. Tom is obtaining a Mac. [Some questions to Mac users]  (Read 3224 times)

Well, for quite some time now, I've been waiting for this PowerBook G4 my stepdad was going to give me, and he finally obtained his new computer, which is a $1,499 USD(whoops) MacBook Pro.

Yeah, since I have the Happy Mac as my avatar doesn't mean I own a Mac, but that was the past for now. This isn't a permanent replacement, but it's for casual gaming, school, social stuffz, and maybe iTunes.

Now since this thing has over 1000 photos of my family in it, I have to get those out and transfer them to the Mac. Not bad, but yeah.

For those who don't know what a PowerBook G4 looks like:

Yeah, so there's been things floating over my head though about it.

First off, is the Blockland app universal? I haven't tried it on there, but I played AssaultCube on it once, and it worked well.

I have Leopard Install disks from the time I was trying to work with Hackintosh, and such still, so I'm good with updates.

Is Safari good enough or go get Firefox 3?

More questions might pop into my head, but this is good for now.

$14,000 USD

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Blockland definitely did run on a PPC processor, not sure anymore but I imagine so.

Dunno if that will work, pretty sure Leopard was made for Intel and PPC but I dunno if you need to specifically get a PPC version. Furthermore it'll be slower.

IMO the latest Safari is better than Firefox, and I used to be a Firefox fan and a Safari hater. Safari has come a long way and Firefox is getting buggier and more problematic for Mac.

14,000??
My grandparents payed 3,000 :u
Safari is good, it's like a better, way better, IE
but i suggest getting mozilla.
Also, Blockland works fine with a mac, 'cept the sqlite error
to fix the sqlite error you have to type in chat and press enter if your screen/blockland freezes on a servers' loading screen

casual gaming,
Now, I don't own a MAC, but from what I understand they aren't good for gaming.
Also, what is It with you and the word obtained? Just say "got" or "purchased"

Especially not G4's, you can not run Steam on PowerPC and you certainly wouldn't want to. There are few games worth playing on PowerPC computers, and you can't run Windows natively.

The earliest PowerBook G4 of that model had 8mb video ram, and the latest 128 mb. It'll have a 1.67 GHz at best with a L2 or L3 512kb cache on the highest end laptop, which again is not hawt for gaming. That laptop is only good for real Mac users who can still work using their trusty older software, and some new.

Just because its big and shiny and looks like an older MacBook Pro doesn't mean it is. :U

I was afraid to touch it :s.

The latest 17' macbook pro is only $4,099 with full specs. And after adding every possible accessory it was $7,168

Is this one gold plated or something?

"YOU SEE THIS? YOU SEE THIS FINGERPRINT? I HAVE TO PAY $100 TO GET THAT REMOVED! WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING?"

My mistake, my mind fell asleep on fourteen hundred and fourteen thousand.

That's a bit more appropriate.

Oh god lol.

Also, I doubt leopard will run on a powerpc mac, which means this,

1. You're going to be running 10.4 which will NOT work on Blockland.

2. It will be slow as stuff :/
