Author Topic: Learning to play the Guitar  (Read 1663 times)

Out of boredom I have become determined to learn how to play my acoustic that's been stuck in my closet for about 2-3 years.

Any tips?

Have fun, I've hardly the motivation to teach myself piano anymore.

Get an electric

I would but I'd have to buy it with my own money, and I'd need to get an amp.

Learning to play acoustic guitars before electric guitars gives you an advantage when you do eventually move to electrics.

So don't listen to Sandvich.

Otherwise, just learn some basic songs. My suggestion is to just pick one of your favourite bands, and look up some tabs on Ultimate Guitar.

Thanks for the link to some songs I could learn.
The only problem is I don't know which note is which.

From one Acoustic bro' to another.

watch videos of this guy: he teaches songs that use mostly chords, beginner chords.

I'm not sure how much experience you have currently, but this guys website might give you a good first step.

Well, usually it'll show tabs like:

E------
B------
G------
D------
A------
E------

The lowest E string is the thickest string on your guitar. I suggest just looking up a video of it on YouTube. I also highly recommend looking through this guy's channel. He teaches a lot of songs that are really easy:
